if unsw wanted more money theyd just release the gateway program with something to get more international students. if they only wanted money from domestics then theyd just lower entry requirements instead of making a niche entry option

not always true. the dux of my school last year did no maths, she took all conventionally low-scaling subjects (ancient, legal, business, industrial tech, english, ee1). bro landed 3 state ranks and ended up getting an atar of 99.90. it isn't a matter of what subjects you choose - you just have to do well in whatever subjects you choose and your atar will follow

exactly! ik a girl who did only 10 units all humanities (including history and eng ext 1) and got a 99 atar.

this is a GATEWAY school, so they get like 10 extra selection rank points or dont even need an atar at all for UNSW (wtf)

Why the fuck are they allowing people who aren't capable of the workload at UNSW into UNSW?

You don't know their context, what they've been through. Success is relative, and maybe it so happened that many wanted to do vocational training or join the defence force. No school's HSC results are 'bad', as different schools have different oppurtunities.
