look at the formula sheet for further math they do much more than extension 1 and 2
wasn't my point ๐Ÿ’€
may've misinterpreted what u originally meant tho

also, just cuz further math covers more than 3u+4u doesn't mean it's harder ๐Ÿ˜ญ, STEP is defo harder than 4u but I'm pretty sure A levels itself isn't

was the cohort insanely good? did she get close to 100 external? is she straight up lying about her rank lmao?
23/23 final rank gives you the lowest external mark from your cohort (assuming the lowest isn't some crazy outlier) ๐Ÿ’€
Hmm ig the cohort was semi good not Extremely good but idk for sure
i wouldve thought she was lying abt her rank but the sccelerated kids (class of 25 that did math adv in 24) confirmed

...i thought the internal marks were based on your external ranks not the other way round
no. if you have an INTERNAL rank of 5, for the assessment mark you will take the 5th exam mark of the entire school which may or may not be your own mark. If the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and/or 4th perform worse than you, you will consequently take a lower assessment mark than your exam mark. If the 6th, 7th, 8th... perform better in the hsc exam than you when you're 5th, you will take a higher assessment mark.

So in short:
if you're ranked higher than you deserve, you will get an assessment mark higher than your exam mark (you stole this mark).
if you're ranked lower than you deserve, you will get an assessment mark lower than your exam mark (someone stole the from you)
if you're given the rank you truly deserve, you will get the same assessment mark as your exam mark (because it means the assessment rank is equal to the external exam ranking for the school)

This is how most people ranking works, however it is more complicated cause this doesn't consider outliers and exceptions. For example, another student in my school was internally ranked 2nd, and got an exam mark of 86, however the 1st internally ranked person got an exam mark in the 70s. You'd expect the 2nd internally ranked person to get an exam mark of 86 and assessment mark in the 70s, lowering his hsc mark to basically unusable. However, his assessment mark became 85 instead as the 2nd internal person was considered an outlier.

Hence, if a very dumb person is ranked higher than you, it doesn't matter cause they will be treated as an outlier anyway. But if a slightly dumb person is ranked higher than you, IT MATTERS A LOT since NESA wont treat his low exam mark as an outlier. Therefore for a dumb person ranked higher than you to not lower your assessment mark, HE MUST SCORE VERY LOW in the exam otherwise he wont be considered an outlier and you take his shit mark. Basically if your hsc exam mark was an 80, and the higher ranked slightly dumb person got a 76, you'd take an assessment of 76. If a higher ranked very dumb person got an exam mark of 65, NESA will consider the 65 an outlier so you will take your own assessment mark. In short: you can only get your own assessment mark if the school ranked you fairly you are considered an outlier in comparison to the rest of the school. Yeah what a shit system that needs to be abolished

Alongside not being remotely accurate, that's an oversimplification anyway. Someone with rank x doesn't get rank x external mark for their internal. You don't just "take" marks. Have a read of this: https://www.nsw.gov.au/education-an...toc-about-moderating-school-assessments-marks

Your internal mark is a reflection on how you've performed throughout the entire year during school. I think it's kinda fair that this can't just be salvaged by a good external, since you didn't do well the entire year. If a very dumb person is ranked higher than you, they get a higher internal mark than you. Where are you getting your information from ๐Ÿ’€

The thing with the HSC is that YOU can't change anything, you can only play the game. Complaining about it doesn't help. Even worse, (possibly intentionally/ in a hyperbolic manner) misrepresenting something you haven't taken the time to understand/learn about and criticising it based on that.

"If 2 (or more) students are tied on the highest assessment mark, NESA will moderate this mark to equal the mean of the highest 2 (or more) exam marks. This also applies if students are tied on the lowest assessment mark. " mate this is fucking worse ๐Ÿ’€, basically it's saying they will average 80 and 70 to give you a 75 assessment mark. It's absolutely not fair cause why should I take a low assessment mark just cause I'm tied first with another? Also what I meant is if a very dumb person is ranked first and ur ranked second (which may be due to the fact that he's good in assignments but not in exams) and he got a very low external mark, NESA considers him an outlier so his mark wont affect your assessment mark at all. "exclusion", they have been completely removed from being factored into my assessment mark

i thought everyone said assessment mark is based on rankings only, turns out it's actually worse cause they average the top ranking exam marks rather than just giving u ur own assessment mark if you are not ranked first. So that means if you get the 2nd external mark which is 80, they average it with a lower score that could be 70 in the same "anchor point", giving u an assessment mark of 75.
