Re: Best Physics Textbook?

Jacaranda has more than enough info and Physics in Focus is very, very nicely set out with concise information.

Re: Which Physics HSC study guide, textbooks etc?

HSC Excel isn't a textbook but actually a very good study guide indeed.
Physics in Contexts isn't that good of a textbook due to the excess content and lack of colour schemes.
I hear Jacaranda is good.

Re: Best physics textbook...

Jarcanda is fine, provided you follow the syllabus and intepret some wholly detail and sometimes too much information, which becomes redudant and doesn't even answer the syllabus question properly but ends up giving you an essay about it!!!
My experience with the Physics in context, preliminary course, was s*** it was crap. It does not tell you what you really need in the end. - my advice though.
But i am proud to have something that answers the syllabus, Physics in focus.
Excel is ovveerratted-- id just buy it if i'd like to have some kind of prep test// great revision, it explains why its this or that, but doesnt make a simple account on the course, sometimes it lacks information :/ (well, that was the preliminary course)[soggy]

Don't know what everyone in this thread is going on about. Physics in Focus in amazing, definitely the best textbook. Nice layout, concise and relevant information that can be easily remembered and reproduced in exams for full marks. Jacaranda comes in a close 2nd, but since it sometimes goes overboard with info not relevant to the syllabus it can be quite overwhelming to sift through what's necessary.

The thread is over two years old and the books are different now.

This link at HSC Online lists all recommended textbooks for HSC and Prelim Physics:
http://hsc.csu.edu.au/physics/teachers/2340/phys_teachers.htm
link doesn't work anymore.
however as at 2016 the list on that website was
list.png
a more up-to-date list might look like this now:

strive physics
physics in focus
dot point nsw physics
pearson physics
surfing nsw physics
excel
jacaranda physics
cambridge checkpoints
a+ physics
atar notes physics
nsw physics calculations
physics 1&2, 3&4, 5&6, 7&8
lazsta physics
q&a nsw physics
mastering physics
neap assessment series

but ....

with new syllabus cambridge are introducing new books for bio, physics and chemistry

chemistry is a year behind so no chemistry till next year

year 11 bio is finished and is up at https://issuu.com/cambridge3/docs/cambridge_biology_for_nsw_stage_6_y11_uncorrecte

chapter 6 of the year 11 physics is up at https://issuu.com/cambridge3/docs/cambridge_physics_for_nsw_stage_6_year_11_annotate

maybe the rest of the year 11 physics will be up soon

year 12 bio and physics come next year as well as the year 11 chemistry and then finally year 12 chemistry in 2028

i also happen to know later this year biology in focus, physics in focus and the pearson bio and physics get updated for new syllabus for year 11 then next year for year 12.

dunno which of the others are getting updated

for new syllabus it's kinda looking like this so far:

physics in focus
pearson physics
cambridge physics
