Whether it's tutoring(tutoring centre or private) or materials(textbook, past paper etc) : It is only as good as it is suitable for you.
For example whilst you did not find Dr Du effective for you it may be effective for others. Similarly for any textbook/materials.

As you do self-study or any tutoring a quick way to test that is 'are you fully grasping most (like 80-90% or more) of the main content'?
By 'fully grasping' I mean:
1. Given a similar question you can give a clear end to end solution that would gain you full marks (not 'somehow got an answer')
2. Do that in an efficient manner and within(and ideally well under for basic questions) time allocated for those marks in exams (not spending 10 minutes for a 2 mark question)
3. Be able to explain the solution or concept to someone else in a clear and logical way.

hmm how does that affect the number of ppl getting b6s?
also WHY are you complaining on this thread it's not even relevant
because it's relevant to how schools like making their own rules just for the sake of making their own rules.

OP's school has a stupid ass fucking extension 2 top 20 in extension 1 requirement (despite extension 2 being a very fucking great scaling subject anyway)

While my school made their fucking retarded assignment and exams much harder for math advanced despite being a non fucking selective school with a ranking of 400th+ on a normal year. Because of this, ranking order created was fucking shit. Besides, making an exam harder doesn't make your students smarter at all. It all comes down to teaching + motivation + intelligence.

In this exam, the top exam mark was 93 for my school 🤣
95 the previous year, then 98.

Notice how the top mark went DOWN after some retard became in charge and tried making the exams hard as selective schools.

Because OP's dogshit school is a partially selective school, ofcourse the fucking miserable old people in charge want to maintain a high band 6 rate for extension 2 by artificially limiting the numbers of people in that course. I fucking hate everyone who tries to screw with people's ATAR. (Paramatta High School is a public school as well, so it's only for the teacher's satisfaction.)

When will schools fucking learn HSC is not a fucking competition except for a select few schools (James Ruse, Sydney Grammar, Sydney). HSC is supposed to be a fucking pathway and preparation into university. Not for fucking old teachers to game as entertainment.

Yeah if they make the exam hard they might aswell improve the quality of teaching. Ig some people don't care about their students ambitions.

Yeah, no worries. I had a big drive of questions for Ext 1 that I posted for free a long time ago. It's got basically everything, and every major variation of questions you need to understand. I'm not sure if you are accelerating or not, though, so this is mostly Year 12 content.

Also, if you go to tutoring with that purpose in mind thats a really good trait to have just as a student. Tutoring is really useful, I did Dr Du, and it helped. But I had got to a stage where I was just learning ahead of Dr Du even by the time trial revision came up. Pre-reading on topics and going to tutoring with existing knowledge and understanding is actually what makes tutoring useful. Otherwise, I agree it's totally useless if you just passively write notes and agree with the concepts thrown at you. So I wouldn't even say Dr Du did much for me, rather than just 'boost confidence'.

Another tip is to try to rewrite the answers the next day on questions you couldn't do [basically what I did with all questions in this One Note]. But like, don't think of it as [step 1, step 2 ....]. I think what was really interesting is that during all my exam trials for HSC, I basically just 'explained' everything like an essay [you won't have time for this] because I had built a habit. I built the habit where I was just writing answers to teach the marker. [I wish I had bought my HSC paper, but on some questions I was just explaining concepts in full essays]. It makes you extremely, extremely congnizant of the steps you're doing and basically humbles you when you start to just mindlessly write stuff. You will see there are a lot of 6 markers which I used 4 pages for, but I don't remember them as stepwise answers. Just as a story where my goal is to teach the marker.
Just curious but did you take math ext 1?

My fucking retarded school ramped up difficulty in math exams and cause of that, 2 less people got band 6s in math advanced. fucking retarded teachers.
how does making it harder.. lower b6 amount..?

i'd say that it helps you prepare better

Bro there's so many schools that do this. They even made a rule where you can't pick english advanced unless you get top 60. Well it is what it is. I just have to work hard enough in a way that I'm one of the 20 kids who make it to ext 2 ig 🤷‍♂️. Maybe my schools just dogshit. I go parramatta btw.
ooh i didn't know parra did that

Atomi is almost as good or even better than tutoring , particularly for Mathematics. Some tutoring places are absolute rubbish (such as Kumon, they hire high school students who are incompetent themselves most of the time).

Try Atomi on a free subscription if you have not.
ouch

i wouldn't say atomi nor edrolo are strong for math

atomi barely skims the surface for math and edrolo is usually good for very in-depth stuff so HSIE subjects like economics
