As the title says, I'm aware they have iMacs in labs for us to use but I'll still need access to animation heavy programs for when I study at home
Open to any recommendations Mac or Windows that are student budget friendly and whether or not a dedicated GPU is really required (since it's pricey and heavy to carry/I've heard of some people doing the course using integrated graphics laptops)

Will you be using software like Adobe Animate and Blender? If so, it would be better to opt for dedicated graphics. See the following laptop as an example:

Is it within your budget? It has the following specs:
  • Display size: 15.6 inches (good size for your purposes)
  • Resolution: 1920×1080 (Not the sharpest but still decent)
  • Refresh rate: 144 Hz (very good compared to 60 Hz, assuming it is supported by the software that you will be using)
  • Graphics: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 graphics 6GB (not the best but a decent budget option for your purposes)
  • RAM: 16 GB DDR5 (more RAM is better, but 16 GB should be sufficient)
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-12450HX (A bit old but should still deliver decent performance given the decent clock speed)
  • Storage: 512GB SSD (if you need more storage, you may wish to consider buying an external SSD at a later stage, which is not too expensive)
Overall, you should aim to buy a laptop with similar specs to the above, or higher if possible.

I hope this helps! 😄
