i like piling all my tables and grammar notes into one folder and regularly revising them/testing myself to ingrain them into my head. Also, before tests, i spam vocab flashcards (mostly on anki but the other types are fine) and practice unseen translations. For this I usually dig them up on school archives or translate unread textbook passages just ahead of where the class is up to.

Studying for comment/analysis is a little more complicated imo. After every test, I find that writing down the feedback and letting it accumulate over several tests is really helpful. Then practice comment questions are useful as well; the class asks the teacher for sample questions and these can be modified to any texts, especially if you know what you'll be tested on.

but this is just what i've been doing for the past few years!! i'm in y10 and most likely doing latin in senior years. what year are you in?

I'm replying one year late but it's cause I see that you're active. How did your test go? I have a latin test in 20 days which I have not studied for.

HAHA this is funny i dont really remember what i got to be completely honest but im pretty sure i did the best in that test than my others cos i gen was gettign like average 50ish percent for all of them and then for that one i may have gotten 70-80...?? i really was horrible at latin so not sure if the teacher was marking lenient esp cos she knew i was dropping but heh i remember being quite happy cos i did way better than i expected. BUT U GOT THIS lock in!!!!! or dont 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

I'm not sure if you're still looking for an answer to your question but the best way to study for Latin is to use whatever you want to learn, and so limit the amount of actual 'study' you need to do before tests. For example for year 9/10, a solid approach is to consistently review grammar & vocab every week and use the week before tests for set text memorisation. Essentially, you want your grammar/analysis skills to be working knowledge, because otherwise the study load can get quite overwhelming for languages.

Hey there, i actually do Latin (y9) though to respond I'll need more information from your end.

I'll first say practice split your grammar like this
  • Your noun/verb/adjective tables - active recall only (writing the things down)
  • Other smaller grammar intricacies can be practiced by reading through the text and going through a summary sheet though ideally check what you are explicitly tested on
Then do some vocab
Here, I also spam vocab cards (i use knowt)

Ideally, also do some past papers if provided but rereading the texts and practicing what the task is asking is particularly important.

My school uses the cambridge latin course and a friend's school(sydney grammar) uses the oxford latin course. Our school doesn't provide past papers. I'm planning to do latin in year 9. Any tips? Just had a test on 2 unseens.

I find it hard to hard to learn the endings for the declensions, how did you learn your adjectives through tables? My friends said you just need to know the declensions and you'll know your adjective endings. I didn't do latin in year 7 but I did it this year.

Ok so, to learn adjectives for declensions , you need to first familiarise yourself with the 1st, 2nd and 3rd declension nouns as they are virtually the same except a few possible exceptions (3 declensions of adjectives only). Moreover, you must familiarise with the concept that adjectives agree with nouns gender, number, and case. But I'd say first focus on 1st and 2nd nouns and adjectives for very beginners then scale up to 3rd declension adjectives. Note there are no 4th or 5th declension adjectives and it is not required as again adjectives agree in gender, number and case.
