hello i am trying to decide whether to drop maths ext 1 or not i currently have 12 units and i am not very good at maths but this year my ext marks have been (pretty significantly) better than my adv. my mind was set on dropping it for a while bc i want to focus more on my adv but I know that ext scales really well and i have been getting okay ish marks but still i am very iffy. now I'm thinking maybe i should just keep it and see how i go but then eventually get rid of it. do we think that's a good idea or should i just follow my gut and drop it. cos honestly i am horrible at maths and i rlly cant see myself doing very well unless i spend ALOT ALOT of time and effort on it but i already do very content heavy subjects so idk. THOUGHTS PLS PLSPLS

also another small thing i currently do bio and i tbh enjoy it and i felt like i was getting it but then my exam went ever so horribly and i basically failed. I'm sure that's a sign to drop it or smth but if i do and i want to drop maths later on i cant cos ill only have 10 units. for now I'm pre sure I'm gonna keep it even with my horrible marks so ig I'm asking for how to study for it and how to get exactly what the markers want??? bc they're so specific and ig i just have issues with applying knowledge

anyways thoughts pls on my math ext mainly thanks ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™

I think one thing you would need to consider is whether or not you will require ext math in your further studies especially for uni. If its stem based, then I think you should keep e1 math for now especially if your e1 is better than adv.

1. if you're struggling with math ext and not doing good in it, i dont see the reason to ask abt keeping it? it clearly seems like u need to discontinue it
2. i just listen in class for bio, im not a notes person, i do take them but NEVER read over them ever again
i just listen, ask questions, and practice at home
but what helped me SO MUCH for bio is atomi! if you can afford it or if your school pays for it, do it! its really helpful and gets things across
(if you're a notes person maybe try downloading notes from here or anywhere online instead of wasting ur time writing them)

You can drop literally at any time before the HSC, or some date before then, but usually you can drop a subject even mid-way through year 12 (check with your teachers). So, don't rush your decision.

It seems to me that you know your stuff, just struggle to apply/remember it during exams. In that case, practice is always best to simulate exam conditions and get your mind used to it. Hang on until the first assessment for year 12 extension math, and if you get bad marks then you have solid data to support your decision.

I recommend speaking with the NESA coordinator at your school and getting their advice on what you should do.

What do you want to do in the future? Most engineering, science, or computing courses require at least advanced math (for the higher universities). Again, check with your advisors, coordinators, e.t.c.

Hope this helps, good luck on your Prelim + HSC journey :D

if u like it and ur ok with doing the work for it then i feel like keeping it isnt a bad idea, but speaking from personal experience i tried so hard to enjoy and keep a subject i was good at but it was just so unejoyable for me and i knew i wouldnt be putting enough effort in as a result so i dropped it and im still really happy with that choice
