Bro if u guys are getting raw marks in the 90s for Eng then u guys are literally gonna get very high band 6s. Like I swear u guys are all like “I’m so cooked” like no u aren’t
Nah everyone is stressed and anything could happen in the HSC so it isn't really fair to minimise it like that. There’s a lot of anxiety and pressure leading up to these exams even for people who have a history of performing well

guys since the reflection and creative piece get marked by separate people in the hsc does that basically mean that our reflection can be on something we didnt even write in the exam and they would just never know?

to add to kat's point:
1. everyone goes to different schools, nobody can be sure if their marks will hold up in the HSC
2. english is one of those subjects where your marks fluctuate very wildly, as someone who did well in trials and comparatively bad on other assessments I can kinda prove it
3. english has to count so there's that added pressure
4. some people need it to be at a certain standard for the uni course they want to get into. I might say I'm cooked even though I know I'm objectively doing well, because I want to get into medicine and I know the standard is really high. also I think everyone here has a habit of hyperbole and are just venting their frustrations in an anonymous space

Yea but there’s a difference between being cooked and just stressed. Cause lowkey it doesn’t matter if the throw u hard questions cause then everyone is cooked and high performing students will still do better than the rest, who will do even worse

I suppose that depends on your definition of cooked - I googled it out of curiosity and they said it means "done and exhausted". I personally take as meaning someone thinking they won't be able to perform up to their desired standard

it's less the hard questions and more the inconsistency of markers imo, "high performing students" sometimes don't even fulfill that prophecy of performing high. even the inconsistency across grades, for example coming first in year 10 vs year 12 should be plenty of proof (whereas the person who comes first in math generally stays first in math)

I agree there could maybe be more sensitivity in who says they're cooked as they could acknowledge that they're doing comparatively well, so I get what you're saying. for example I wouldn't say I was cooked for math. but I feel like it's just a word that's used to express general dissatisfaction - in which case, I would say that my 3U math trial was cooked. I might be using slang wrong but that's my personal take - and this is the 2025 chat after all! it's supposed to be venting for the masses
