Can someone PLEASE confirm for me: Does your internal SCORES matter , or only RANKS, or BOTH?

Im ranked 1 internally for Ext 2, with 2 assessment tasks left. Say hypothetically, I stay rank 1 to the end. but say i get two 80%'s on each of task 3 and the trial, rather than 2 90%'s (i would be rank 1 anyway in either case) does me not getting those 'better' marks affect my overall mark if I get the top HSC mark for my cohort anyway?

Im concerned because I got some subpar marks in Ext 1 and Chemistry which may put me down to Rank 2 or 3 (but I know I can 1000% get back to rank 1) yet Im really concerned the poor performances on Task 2 will have a bad rep on my ATAR overall even despite being Rank 1 (and assuming I get the best HSC assessment mark out of my cohort).

Because, if I get rank 1 + top HSC mark for my cohort it seems vaguely MIRACULOUS these subpar marks could theoretically be wiped clean from my slate - does ending up with a 95% weighted mark internally (taking all the 'Weighting' percentages you see on assessment task notifications ) or a 90% weighted mark internally have any effect at all if you are rank 1 in either case? (and just to confirm - I need the top HSC mark for my cohort for this to ring true?)

If anyone could kindly explain this to me I'd really appreciate it.

if you're rank 1, just ur rank matters and u get highest external (if you're deserved of first, you should get that anyway) in your cohort as your internal

if you're between 1st and last (non inclusive), your rank and the mark/score gaps between other ranks matter.

if you're ranked last, u gon get the lowest external as ur internal, unless there be some crazy outlier

u can hve a lil read of it here if u so desire: https://www.nsw.gov.au/education-and-training/nesa/hsc/exams-and-marking/assessment-moderation

basically just ranks. the mark they take for your internal is just the external mark of whichever external rank matches your internal rank (if your first you get first place's external mark for internals.
however in a sense your relative position does matter, because for scaling they map the external distribution to the internal distribution (unless your cohort has like 5 ppl), so basically if the distance between you and person below you is larger it works better in your favour. but as this is all relative distribution, no the actual mark still doesnt matter.

ranks take priority but in order to get that high rank u need that high score so aim for both

i talked about relative spread in second part 😭

why do u guys complicate this so much just get the highest mark u can
yo fr tho dont worry about scaling cause no matter what dumass formula nesa puts your mark through your best mark still outputs the better score

I tied with the same HSC exam mark in Biology with the person who got first, but because I got 2nd internally; it meant that I would get an overall HSC mark of 1 less point then the person who got first (in terms of marks, we were very close).

I wouldn't worry too much about rankings anyways. There's nothing that can really be done, other than trying your best and seeing what works and what doesn't.

ts not true
If the NSB teachers are evil and make a test which Terence Tao himself could only get 50% and Aquinas Catholic College give their students a test which is all pisstake questions, obviously the (less smart) ACC students are gonna get higher results, despite being less smart. As this is not a fair way to do the HSC, they blindly follow ranks

Your school doesn't even tell NESA your raw marks, only your ranks
