like any high finance in general not js ib
depends, for quite a bit of finance jobs it'd probably be more useful to do comm/stem than law/comm. u kinda need to k what finance u want. law's not useful for more quantitative stuff. there's also a case to be made that law takes too much effort even for wanting to get into ibd & ud be better doing comm/stemm there

Is it possible to work in equity research for a couple years then transfer to hedge funds or is ib a better place to start

out of my element here, but i would think yes, i would also think that hedge funds hardly exist in australia. i think generally start in ib probably

Macquarie group hires hedge fund managers right? But ig that would take quote alot of work and experience

macquarie isnt a hedge fund, im pretty sure you're thinking of asset management or sth similar there which is different from hedge funds

Ahh okok, is management consulting a good career? Is it hard to get into the top firms like mckinsey and co? Sorry for the influx of qs 😭

some would say yes others would say no. mckinsey probably just as hard as top tier ib. dw

For someone whos kind of interested in stocks and the economy what would be a good career for this?
anything probably. interests definitely change during university years i would say

ye anything involving corporations probably i mean i doubt you have like a deep passion for stocks and economy beyond its cool and like stuff moves and money

Haha yeah not a deep deep passion but it is definitely smth that currently interests me and i would like to pursue and learn further about it. Especially since theres not many things i like so for there to be smth that im even remotely interested in is good enough for me

hey, I remember you mentioning actuarial work at some point, just curious, is there a reason you decided not to pursue that path?

I js heard that theres not manu jobs as an actual actuary around and yoy got be hella cracked to actually get one, and alot of ppp saying how hard the math was so I js thought it wasnt worth it.

yea ive been debating whether to consider it too, just scared about the math/doing well at uni
