Hey guys,
My school doesn't do work experience, however I still ended up finding a dentistry place that will allow me to do "volunteering" there. I was just wondering if I needed to know anything beforehand to be prepared. And also how your work experience was and what you did at your time there !!

hi! 1st. that's so cool! i did work experience at an investment firm then a vet clinic, but since the vet clinic is closer to a dentistry clinic, i would say to do these:
1. look through the website of your place and take a look at wtv they do, who works there etc. so you can familiarise yourself a little
2. don't be nervous and talk to ppl about how their experience was and how they came into the industry! its a really good conversation starter and interesting to hear about.

honestly, i guess that's really it! i didn't prepare much and i still had a great time. at the vet clinic, i helped take care of the pets who were there for a "home stay" (or when their owners are too busy to take car eof them), watched surgeries (i even learned how to use an injection, helped by cleaning wounds, prepping for surgery by getting equipment or pumping in saline) and did a little bit of cleaning.

you might get bored becuase some days might be busier and some less (well at least at my vet clinic), but ask the receptionist how you can help, or sit with them to see what they're working on.

i hope u have loads of fun there and its a good experience!

before starting the work experience, there was a teacher release form that we had to give to our careers advisor (so teacher's sign if there are any assessment to catch up on) and the work experience form which has all the details about where you are going and things.

then during, there was a logbook for tracking how you went each day (like what activities did you do, what new skills did you learn, how long did you work for, who did you meet, which new equipment did you use), a place for a "career interview" to talk to an employee and learn about their life and a general assessment which your employer ticks off (like they judge how well you helped or how you went with the whole work experience).

At the end, there's like a formal sheet which the employer fills out for a record of how you went at your work experience, so that was most of the reports/documents!
