how do i know if the answer should be in radians or degrees?
Radians will always be used in the context of calculus.
Thm derivative of sin(x) in degrees:
d/dx sin(x) = pi/180*cos(x)
Thm derivative of sin(x) in radians:
d/dx sin(x) = cos(x)
Notice how by defining radians so that pi radians = 180 degrees, we no longer need to deal with the pi/180 coefficient.
Note: Proof of both theorem are likely outside scope of high school mathematics. You can accept the theorems at face value
